The Second National Summit on Retirement Savings
27 February - 1 March 2002
Background
In 1997, the "Savings Are Vital to Everyone's Retirement (SAVER) Act" was passed in Congress and signed by the President. As part of the bill, the first National Summit on Retirement Savings was held on June 4-5, 1998 in Washington, D.C. The Summit, jointly convened by the President and the bipartisan leadership of Congress, strived to increase public awareness of the importance of retirement planning and to identify ways to promote greater retirement savings by all Americans.
